About Us
In 1970 when I graduated from Pickens High School in Upstate South Carolina, my visionary grandmother gifted me a portable Singer sewing machine. That would have been a stretch for her budget, but became a boost for mine (since I loved fashion). The sewing machine allowed me to have new dresses for Spring chorus tour while a student at Clemson. After graduation I was able to make my own nursing uniforms and even ventured into making men's denim jackets and the infamous leisure suit! The secret was that I was an only child for six years and watched my mother at her machine while she made clothes for us. I followed her voracious creativity with everything she tried (cedar Christmas wreaths using clothes hangers, centerpieces from folding old Reader's Digests, making "snow" from laundry detergent to coat tree branches that were transformed into a snowy winter table scape, candle-making in half-gallon milk cartons using ice cubes in hot wax. (I digress!)
So three years into retirement (and eight months into a pandemic) I have a new machine (the one my grandmother gave me died just a month ago) and a growing list of projects. Getting to see my creations installed and the satisfaction adorning the faces of my customers led to the business name SEW ADORNING.
